Welcome to the Will County
Clerk's Tax Extension Web Site.
The Tax Extension Department accepts the
filing of the annual budgets, levies, financial reports, and
boundary changes of all taxing bodies and calculates the tax rates
and extensions for each unit of government. The Forfeiture/Tax Sale
Redemption area of the office collects payments for delinquent
taxes.
Will County property taxes for 2008 totaled
$1,507,780,528.85, an increase of 6.2% when compared to last year.
Between 2006 and 2007, the increase was 8.3%.
The total assessed value of all property in
Will County increased 6.8% to 21.724 billion in 2008, up from 20.348
billion in 2007.
For 2008
tax, the average rate in the county decreased from $6.9743 per
hundred to $6.9406 per hundred, a drop of .0337, or 0.5% overall.
Tax rates drop when values increase faster than tax dollars
increase. That was the case again this year.
Most of the 250
taxing districts in the county are limited by the Tax Cap Law, which
is meant to slow the increase of tax extensions (dollars). The law
provides that a district can only increase its tax by the rate of
inflation (4.1% for this year), and by the amount of new property in
the district. Additional increases must come from the voters in the
form of referenda passed at local elections."Click Here" to learn more.
