Welcome to the Will County Clerk's Marriage License Web Site.

The County Clerk issues licenses for marriages that occur in Will County.  Both the bride and the groom must apply in person for the marriage license.  For more information on marriage license services call (815) 740-4626.

HB3393 was signed by the governor creating the Married Families Domestic Violence Fund and will go into effect on June 1st, 2008. A $5.00 increase must be applied to the cost of obtaining a marriage license in the State of Illinois.  The fee in Will County will be raised to $28.00.

Marriage License Requirements

It is important to note that a marriage license is valid only in the county in which it is issued.
bulletBoth parties must be 18 years of age in order to obtain a license.
bulletPersons who are 16 or 17 years of age may obtain a license only with consent
            of both parents.
bulletYou must show two proofs of age -- one MUST BE a certified copy of your birth
certificate; and one of the following: baptismal certificate, valid driver's license,
school record, draft card, fire arms registration, military i.d., or other document
showing your date of birth.
bulletCertified copies of divorce decrees are required.
bulletIf previous marriage has been dissolved by the death of a spouse, a certified death
certificate is required.

The cost of a marriage license in Will County is $23.00 payable by cash or check.

Both parties must be present when applying for the license.

A marriage license becomes effective one day from the date issued and is valid for 60 days from the date it becomes effective.

Where can I get a Marriage License?

Marriage licenses are issued at the Will County Clerk's Office in downtown Joliet and at both the satellite branch offices in Eastern and Northern Will County.
